Part of a global organisation
Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917 and is the largest voluntary organisation in the world. With the motto We Serve, its principal goals are to promote good citizenship, to take an active interest in the community, to serve its needs and to relieve distress. Today, there are over 48,000 Lions clubs around the world. Each is filled with people who’ve decided to take action and serve others. Lions form unique friendships and meaningful connections that can last a lifetime.
We operate locally
The Leatherhead Lions Club (formally known as the Leatherhead and District Lions Club) was founded in 1973 and is active around Leatherhead, Ashtead, Fetcham, Bookham and Dorking. We raise tens of thousands of pounds annually from our events. These funds support local charities, community projects and individuals in need, as well as the Lions Club International Disaster Relief Fund.
We are a charity
We are unpaid volunteers who give our time and assistance freely. In return we enjoy great friendship and with the people we help. We are a registered charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation Registered Number 1199652) and take nothing of what is donated for ourselves.
We meet regularly
The Club plans our activities at a ‘Business Meeting’ held once a month on a Thursday evening, usually at Effingham Golf Club. Enjoying each other’s company is just as important, so we also hold a monthly social event which can range from a Curry Night to Dinner Events with partners and guests.
