We Serve

Together we have raised over £20,000

Thanks to your generous support for our Christmas collections, Wenceslas Appeal, Easter egg raffles and traditional village day stalls, we have donated £20,318 to mainly local causes and charities.

Let’s keep the magic alive!

We now need volunteers to support our 2024 Father Christmas sleigh visits to local households in Leatherhead, Ashtead, Fetcham & Bookham. This year will be the 50th year of this magical tradition. Can you spare some evenings this December to bring Christmas cheer and help collect donations?

Who we are

A local group

We are a group of local individuals with a focus on improving the lives of local people. We are all unpaid volunteers coming from Leatherhead, Ashtead, Fetcham, Bookham and surrounding areas. Our club is part of Lions Clubs International.

What we do

Supporting local causes

Our goal is to improve people’s lives. We support a diverse range of local causes, including the Air Ambulance, young people’s groups, disabled people and individuals in fuel poverty. We also support the Lions Clubs International disaster relief appeals.

How we do it

Through local initiatives

We raise funds by running local events throughout the year. You will find our fun stalls at many village fairs and during December we accompany Santa as he visits children in the area. In between, we find time to socialise together and have fun.

Our Charities

Air Ambulance

You will often see us out and about collecting for the Kent, surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance. The air ambulance is a charity and relies on these funds.

Riding for the Disabled

Epsom Riding for the Disabled do fantastic work providing disabled people with the opportunity to ride to benefit their health and well-being.

Scouts and Guides

The Scouts and Guides need no introduction. Our help allows them to prepare more young people with skills for life – through activities, badges and nights away.

Leatherhead Community Hub

You may know the Hub from organisations such as Ewell Foodbank, Leatherhead Community Fridge and St Giles Playgroup who operate out of the centre. The Leatherhead Lions made a substantial contribution towards the purchase of sound equipment for the centre.

Dyscover

A Leatherhead-based charity supporting people who have suffered a stroke or brain injury, which has left them with Dysphasia – the inability to comprehend language, either speaking, reading, or writing.

We run a spectacle recycling scheme where local opticians collect your old glasses. These are checked and if suitable are sent abroad for use by those who need them. Otherwise the scrap materials is reclaimed.

Wenceslas Appeal

The Wenceslas Appeal is a Lions initiative that supports local households in fuel poverty. Many people redirect the Government’s Winter Fuel Allowance to this appeal to keep others warm.

Message in a Bottle

This simple initiative is an effective way to ensure that emergency services get quick access to essential medical information if you live alone and they need to enter your house in an emergency.

Polesden Lacey Play Area

We have a long relationship with Polesden Lacey and contributed to the new, natural play area on the estate with its swings, tunnels and giant nests. It is designed so that children of different ages and abilities can enjoy it.
