About Leatherhead Lions

An overview of the Leatherhead Lions Club.

Lions Clubs International was founded in 1917 and is the largest voluntary organisation in the world. Its principal goals are to promote good citizenship, to take an active interest in the community, to serve its needs and to relieve distress.

Who are we?

We are one of the 46,000 clubs that make up Lions Clubs International, the largest Service Club organisation in the world, with over 1.4 million members in over 200 countries. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life of less fortunate people in the community by supporting local and other charities and providing service, assistance and funds for those in need. Our Lions Club was founded by Brian Gourlay in 1973 and has been serving the local community ever since.

What do we do?

To fund our donations we raise over £30,000 annually from various local events. We give our time and assistance freely, and in return we enjoy great friendship and social activities among ourselves and with the people we help.

What happens to the money you donate?

Some money is used to run community activities. The rest is given to our selected charities and local residents in need. Unlike many other charities we use absolutely none of the money for salaries or administration.

Do we ever relax?

Of course we do! We enjoy all our activities, but sometimes we organise a social activity just for us, with no fundraising!
